WTF thats all I can say

I havent been blogging much this week cos I really havent had much to say, inspiration has temporarily gone.  Life is moreorless the same, still volunteering though that sadly will come to an end in September.  This is an excerpt of a letter I received today. It refers to a recent meeting we had.

Since that meeting ****** Borough Council and ******* Primary Care Trust have been working towards the next stage in the process to change the way in which local services for disabled people are provided.  The changes, introduced by the Department of Health, will apply throughout the country and have become necessary because of the introduction of "Personalisation" whereby anyone receiving a personal care and support package will be able to buy service directly from providers instead of the present situation where local authority funds the provider directly.
This means that when these new rules come into effect we will no longer be funded directly by the local authority.  Instead ******* Borough Council and ******* Primary Care Trust will be inviting tenders for a user-led "umberella" type organisation to co-ordinate the provision of a wide variety of organisation in ****** that supports adults with a whole range of disabilities.  Once that organisationis in place it will invite other organisations to tender to provide the actual services to the various disabled groups in the town.  Timescale for changes is over the next 12 months - our current funding is until 30 September 2010.

What a load of crap.  I have no words I am so cross.  It is a lifeline for so many people and it is a free service, mainly funded by fundraising and volunteers.  Now there will be no fundraising as they have told the fundraiser who is employed by the council that her job will cease to exist in September and as it is she is disabled herself and only works for 3 days a week.  WTF is the matter with the government and local authorities and WTF is the language they use for all this crap.  I would rather they just said we are cutting costs and if you are disabled hard f***** luck !!!!

How bloody ridiculous...no wonder you're angry. Having been in social work for years I am someone who constantly sang the praises of the tireless efforts of volunteers. Without them so many people with various problems would not have had the quality and enjoyment out of life that they did.
So I guess this "new" scheme will be nationwide then?
What's wrong with "if it ain't broke no need to fix it"?

YepAyak its going to be nationwide so you think how many people will be affected. Some of the service users dont get to go anywhere except to the activities provided by our group and how sad is that. xx

I guess it makes us sound old when we say "what the bloody hell is this country coming to?"

Haha Fab yes it does but its so sad that this is happening I even found out yesterday that our local Well Woman Clinic has been closed because funding was taken away. Our council seems to be £2 million in the red ...... how come they are so bad at money management it makes you wonder. AM still so mad about it all xx
