Am home ICD has been implanted, all went well though I did have afew minor hiccups. There was some discussion before the op what exactly they were going to do so the surgeon and his assistant came to me to have a chat. I was orignally going to have an ICD and Bivent put in but with the Bivent part turned off til it was needed but the Surgeon wasnt happy todo it as he thought I could have complications from it so now I have just the defibrillator which will pace both slow and fast heartrates and then deliver a shock if it becomes necessary. The test the machine once its in you and put you into ventricular fibrillation then shock your heart, thankfully you arent actually aware of this. Apparantely though they had problems with me in getting the leads in and I was sedated for longer than anticipated. When I went back to the ward I couldnt stop being sick and I felt awful, also I had pneumothorax, so I had to stay in hospital. But all is well I feel ok, just a bit sore and tired and I had the implant put under the muscle rather than the skin so it will be more uncomfortable in the short term but better for me long term. Now its the recovery period and no driving for 4 weeks and no lifting or stretching arm above shoulder height thats so the heart knits round the wires which are placed against the heart wall. Im glad its all over although you dont remember anything about the procedure much. I didnt feel them tugging and pulling although I can remember them havign a bit of a discussion when they were having trouble with the leads but it didnt make me worry. Maybe I need whatever they gave me every day hehehhehehe. Am tired now so gonna have a snooze and will catch up with everything soon.
Device similar to mine and where its been placed for anyone who is interested lol.
